Knitting Socks Patterns

People do not take up knitting as a hobby, or even a way to keep their hands busy.  People take up  knitting as a way to fulfill a fantasy.  Knitters of all ages, whether they are grandmas or young hipsters, do it because of nostalgia for an earlier time.  They like to watch the clothes slowly come together.  They like to add authenticity to their lives.  Because of this, they often start with grandiose dreams.  They try to knit sweater patterns before they are able to, and sometimes burn out before they have completed their first project.  If you are just getting started knitting, you should avoid this pitfall.  I’d recommend beginning with sock knitting patterns.

Knitting sock patterns involves all of the essential skills of knitting, but with much less work.  When you are using sock knitting patterns, it is easy to keep track of what you are doing.  You are only making a small pattern, so it requires much less work to count stitches and to keep them all of a uniform size.  Unlike knitting sweaters, sock knitting patterns  do not require that you join large pieces together.  A sock, after all, is little more than a tube of yarn.  Knitting socks patterns provide an easy way for you to practice basic knitting and purling.

Of course, if you give it a little bit of thought, you will quickly come to realize that knit socks are not very practical.  Nevertheless, there are a huge number of free sock knitting patterns available for you all over the Internet.  You can find anything out there, from basic sock knitting patterns incorporating fairly standard designs in standard sizes, to the most extravagant socks that you can imagine.  There are socks with pom-poms, socks with monkeys on the sides, and socks with tassels.  You can find sock knitting patterns that will create any socket your heart could possibly desire and your foot could possibly wear.  I recommend starting with very basic sock knitting patterns, but if you are really tempted to, go crazy.  If you mess it up, it is only a sock!

After knitting a sock, you might be tempted to move up all at once to a large project.  This is a big mistake.  The best second project you can do, if you ask me, is to knit a hat.  Only after that should you start to think about sweaters.
